Paul Tsongas

“We did not have the money to fight the media war.” What sad words for a former senator and a highly qualified candidate for the highest office of the land to have to state as he was forced to drop out in his bid for the presidency.

What does it take in this country to get the best qualified candidate? Simply money, and a lot of it! What an indictment of our political process. And who is guilty? Primarily TV and the print media for its high cost of advertising. They seem to thrive and profit from the media war and have little concern that the best man emerges with the best program to be considered for election.

Of course, all of us are guilty for permitting the election process to fail so miserably. Comprehensive election reform continues to linger in Congress; progress is painfully slow.

Paul Tsongas left his campaign without bitterness. He attempted to take the high road in running his campaign, and hopefully it will elevate the level of this election just a little bit.
