A former North Hollywood resident, Rosa died March 5 of cancer, said his daughter, Agnes Rosa of Los Angeles.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Rosa began singing as a youth in a community choir in his hometown. He later moved to New York, where he worked as a furrier. In his mid-30s, Rosa began taking private singing lessons and appeared in “Pagliacci,” “Aida” and “Otello,” in both New York and Los Angeles during the 1950s and 1960s.

Rosa continued in the fur trade after moving to California in the mid-1960s and retired in the late 1970s. A dramatic tenor, Rosa kept on singing, performing with the Los Angeles Civic Opera and for B’nai B’rith functions.

In addition to his daughter, Agnes, Rosa is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith Rosa; and daughter Joeanne Patterson of Los Angeles.

At his request, no services were held. Kern Memorial Chapel in Victorville handled the arrangements.
