POMONA : Jury Recommends Life for Convicted Killer
- Share via
A Pomona Superior Court jury Thursday recommended life in prison for Lucien Martin, 20, of Gardena, one of two men convicted of robbery and murder in the July 17, 1990, shooting death of West Covina community activist Raymond G. Shield.
Superior Court Judge Alonzo Bazan will consider the jury’s recommendation when he sentences Martin on April 20. Meanwhile, the jury will continue death penalty deliberations today for Martin’s accomplice, Paul Watkins, 23, of Moreno Valley.
Watkins and Martin were convicted March 11 of first-degree murder in the death of Shield, 61, an engineering consultant who was shot in front of his wife, daughter and two 8-year-old grandchildren. The family was in front of a West Covina hotel to catch a shuttle bus to Los Angeles International Airport for a vacation in Hawaii.
