Share

Conejo Valley school board members on Thursday approved spending $1.5 million in construction projects for the 1992-93 school year.

The 46 improvements will be funded through the Conejo Valley Unified School District, local developers and redevelopment funds.

Project bids will go out this spring so that work can be done over the summer.

Among the improvements planned are replacing classroom and office roofs, parking lots and heaters at various schools. In addition, some student restrooms and buildings will be renovated, irrigation systems repaired and carpet replaced in several school facilities.

Included in the total package this year is a $25,000 contribution toward a $760,000 stadium at Westlake High School that is expected to begin construction late this year, said Ali Kiafar, director of planning and facilities for the district. District staff has asked the school board to contribute $25,000 each year in redevelopment funds for the next five years to help cover construction costs.

Projects are chosen on the basis of whether they improve safety or correct problems likely to interrupt instruction, or to avoid higher costs that would occur if the project were delayed.
