NORTH HOLLYWOOD : DMV Adds Line for Spanish Speakers

The North Hollywood telephone branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles has become the first in the state to provide lines specially designated for Spanish-speaking customers, DMV officials said.

The center closed its doors to the public in January and became a DMV central telephone unit servicing the 213 and 818 area codes.

It began offering the line for Spanish-speaking customers this week.

The center’s bilingual technicians will staff five Spanish-speaking lines as part of the first phase of the DMV’s plan to install multilingual telephone services throughout the state, officials said.

The telephone office is designed to answer questions, set up appointments and record address changes.

DMV officials said they will monitor phone calls at the North Hollywood center to determine whether there is a need to add telephone lines for other language groups.
