BURBANK : St. Joseph Programs Given $250,000 Gift

The St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation has received a $250,000 gift from the estate of Ray Sence, a prominent local businessman and rancher.

The money comes from a trust established by Sence, who died in 1968, to distribute funds to family members and other beneficiaries through 1991. When the trust ended last year, the remaining assets were to be distributed to charitable organizations. The maximum gift to any charity is $250,000.

The money will be used to support St. Joseph’s heart center, cancer program and the Home Hospice Program, according to officials of the Burbank hospital.

“We are extremely fortunate and very grateful to receive a gift of this magnitude,” said Richard Kramer, president of the St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation.

A check was presented to the hospital by retired Burbank lawyer Earle Blais.

“I’m happy to see that money go to St. Joseph,” Blais said. “I’ve watched this hospital grow for 40 years. It’s a fine institution, one of the best in the state.”
