TECATE : Drug Suspect Shoots at Border Agent

Share

A Border Patrol agent seized more than 300 pounds of marijuana Thursday morning from the truck of a man who shot at him before fleeing on foot across the border at Tecate, officials said.

The marijuana was seized at 7 a.m. after a man driving a pickup truck refused to stop for the agent on California 94 and made a U-turn toward Mexico, said Border Patrol spokesman Steve Kean.

The agent chased the vehicle to the Tecate port of entry, where the truck became stuck in some rocks, and the driver fled into Mexico, Kean said. The driver then shot at and missed the agent before he escaped, Kean said.

The agent inspected the vehicle and found 46 cellophane bundles of marijuana under the camper shell, Kean said. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $500,000, he said.
