First Magic Johnson retired.

Then Vlade Divac hurt his back and was lost for three months.

Five days after Divac returned, James Worthy was lost for the season.

Thursday Sam Perkins went on the injured list, too. Really.

The Lakers made the announcement before Thursday night’s 115-92 romp over the Dallas Mavericks, a team bent on reliving their expansion past. This was the Mavericks’ 15th defeat in a row, tying their club record of 1980-81, their first season.

Perkins, the leading scorer of the surviving Lakers, was put on the injured list because of a sore left shoulder and will be eligible to return April 3.

However, the Lakers say he will be out for another week after that--and then will be re-evaluated. At that point, there will be only nine days left in the regular season.

The Lakers’ five projected starters this season have missed 134 games--39% of the season.

“I told them, ‘Sam’s going on vacation. When he comes back, we hope we’re going to be in better position that when he left,’ ” Coach Mike Dunleavy said.

Hope springs eternal, but Perkins will be vacationing during a hard stretch that includes swing games such as Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers and Tuesday on the road against the Houston Rockets.

However, the decision to deactivate Perkins was an easy one.

The Lakers were afraid that, otherwise, he might damage his shoulder further and require surgery.

“I think there’s just a little separation,” Perkins said. “Other than that, it just hurts like hell.”

The Mavericks, whose woes pre-date and dwarf those of the Lakers, arrived with a 14-game losing streak, three rookies in the starting lineup and two Continental Basketball Assn. graduates in the playing rotation.

Since Christmas, when they were 12-15, they are 5-38.

Out went the young Mavericks, including 5-foot-10 point guard Mike Iuzzolino, trying to guard Sedale Threatt. Threatt, who enjoys a mismatch as much as anyone, figured out early in the game that the rookie couldn’t stay with him. After that, it was bombs away.

Threatt hit all six of his shots in the first quarter and scored 13 points as the Lakers jumped to a 10-point lead.

He took only two more in the second quarter--making both--giving him 17 points by halftime.

The Lakers led, 54-41, at halftime and turned it into a laugher when Dunleavy rested Threatt and Terry Teagle went off. Teagle scored 17 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and the Lakers had won two in a row.

Laker Notes

The Lakers moved back into the last playoff spot, half a game ahead of the Houston Rockets. The Lakers trail the No. 7 Clippers by one game. . . . Terry Teagle, who scored 26 points in his last game, got another season high with 28 against Dallas. He has made 23 of 33 shots in two games. . . . “When Terry Teagle goes on one of his rolls, he’s unbelievable,” said Dallas Coach Richie Adubato. . . . The games the projected Laker starters have missed this season: Magic Johnson, 68; Vlade Divac, 47; James Worthy, 14; Sam Perkins, five. . . . The unsinkable Mike Dunleavy: The Laker coach, explaining that Perkins could move his arms as long as he didn’t have to raise them above his head: “Maybe he could play point guard.”
