CS Bakersfield Reaches Semifinals
Led by Tyrone Pollard with 19 points, Cal State Bakersfield beat second-ranked Jacksonville State, 89-59, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II basketball tournament Thursday.
In tonight’s semifinals, Bakersfield (26-6) will play third-ranked Virginia Union (28-3), which defeated Kentucky Wesleyan, 81-69.
Bakersfield, ranked 18th, held a 39-36 lead over Jacksonville (28-2) at halftime before Russell Jarvis, a 6-foot-10 senior center from Winchester, Mass., who finished with 15 points, sparked a 17-6 run.
Also Thursday, Bridgeport, Conn., defeated Central Oklahoma, 127-124, in overtime, and top-ranked California, Pa., defeated South Dakota State, 84-73.
