BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Screen in Scottsdale Raised
A day after 8-month-old Emily Jo Hickerson, daughter of San Francisco Giant pitcher Bryan Hickerson, was bruised by a foul ball, the ballclub said that the screen behind home plate at Scottsdale Stadium would soon be raised by nine feet to 26 feet. The safety of the new $7-million stadium was called into question last week after Angel pitcher Matt Keough was nearly killed by a foul ball while sitting in a dugout. . . . Barry Bonds, expected to be out for several days with a scratch to the cornea of his right eye from a Wednesday foul ball, was back in the Pirates’ lineup as the designated hitter Thursday night.
