An 81-year-old man has pleaded no contest to a reckless endangerment charge stemming from a car crash that led to the death of country music singer Dottie West.

George W. Thackston was placed on probation Thursday for 11 months and 29 days by Probate Judge Jim Everett. Thackston also was ordered to complete an alcohol treatment program.

West, 58, was a passenger in Thackston’s car when it crashed last Aug. 30 while en route to the Grand Ole Opry. She died five days later. Thackston suffered a severed artery in one arm, and hip and back injuries.
