OXNARD : El Centrito Offers Counseling, Services

El Centrito (“The Little Center”) de la Colonia opened its doors Saturday as a public service center in Room 4 of Ramona School in Oxnard, which closed last year.
The center will provide translation service and advice on filling out forms and paperwork for La Colonia’s predominantly Spanish-speaking population. Volunteers will also offer anti-drug counseling and other services, officials said.
El Centrito is funded by a variety of charitable foundations. The center will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays so farm workers can take advantage of the programs.
“This center provides needed services that are very expensive,” said Oxnard Councilman Manuel Lopez, who attended the inaugural ceremony. “A lot of quasi-businesses have taken advantage of residents by offering services that cost close to nothing for a very high price.”
