OCEANSIDE : 9 Youths Injured in Shooting
Nine teen-agers were injured Saturday evening in a spray of gunfire during what might have been a gang-related shooting at a small Oceanside mall, police said Sunday.
One youngster, Adream Whitlow, 16, was struck by a bullet that broke her leg during the shooting, which occurred at about 8:20 p.m. Whitlow was taken by Life Flight to Palomar Medical Center, where she was in serious condition Sunday night. Police believe she may have been shot with a .38-caliber gun.
The group of nine, mostly girls, were on their way home from a shopping trip. As they stood talking at a small mall at North River Road and North Redondo Drive, they were sprayed with bullets and shotgun pellets, police Sgt. Ernest Ullery said. Whitlow’s injury was the most serious in the group.
Police are investigating.
