Three men were wounded in shootings that took place about three hours apart and are believed to be related to gangs, police said Sunday.

In one incident about 9:45 p.m. Saturday, gunmen fired several shots into a crowd outside the Westminster Boxing Club, 14042 Locust St., wounding two men.

Officers said that about 100 people had gathered at the club for an awards presentation and that some of the crowd had stepped outside.

Police said that it is not clear whether gunmen walked by or drove by the club but that the shots came without warning from the street into the crowd. The two victims are being treated for moderate wounds at a local hospital and were not identified.

Police said they think that the shots were fired by four or five men and that the shooting is related to gangs, but they have not determined why the group at the awards presentation was singled out.

The other shooting took place about 12:45 a.m. Sunday in the 14321 block of Olive Street.

Police said Carlos Guzman, 33, who lives on the block, was standing outside his home when a car drove up. One of the people in the car asked Guzman questions about “a party,” then began shooting at him, police said.

Guzman was wounded in the stomach and buttocks and taken to Humana Hospital-Westminster, where he was said to be in stable condition Sunday.

The gunmen in the car fled after the shooting.
