Cornerback Gray Leaves Rams for Oilers

Associated Press

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jerry Gray confirmed Monday night that he will play for the Houston Oilers next season.

"I'm happy," Gray told KRIV-TV in Houston. "I think it's great for me. I'm from Texas, and this gives me an opportunity to play in my home state."

Gray, the Rams' first-round draft choice in 1985, lost his starting job to Todd Lyght at midseason. Gray had 39 tackles and three interceptions, one a 59-yard touchdown return.

Gray reportedly will earn $750,000.

"I'm not shocked it's done," Gray said. "I've wanted to play for Houston for a long time.

"I don't see any better place to play than the Oilers, because I think I have a chance to go to the Super Bowl."
