SAN DIEGO : 2 Steal Truck and Trailer from Driver
A man driving an 18-wheeler carrying $80,000 worth of toys was held at gunpoint by two men who had hidden in the truck’s sleeping compartment, San Diego police said Tuesday.
The unidentified truck driver had stopped at a convenience store on Otay Center Drive on Monday shortly after 8 p.m., police spokesman Bill Robinson said. When the driver got back into his truck, he was confronted by the two men, who appeared from the truck’s sleeping compartment.
One man held a revolver to the driver’s neck and forced him to drive to a secluded area, where he was bound and blindfolded with duct tape, Robinson said. The three men then drove around for about an hour, stopping once to disconnect the truck’s toy-filled trailer.
Eventually, the driver escaped and was discovered hopping around blindfolded by a Border Patrol officer near Roll Drive and Siempre Viva Road, Robinson said. The two thieves apparently got away with the truck, and the whereabouts of the trailer is unknown.
