GARDEN GROVE : Man Arrested on Suspicion of Rape
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape as he left his home here Wednesday morning, police said.
Santa Ana police arrested Juan Farias in connection with the alleged rape of an 18-year-old Santa Ana woman in a van on March 15, said Lt. Robert Helton.
Farias and the woman met at a swap meet in Anaheim, police said. The woman reportedly asked Farias for a ride and the two left in his van, Helton said.
Farias then allegedly drove the woman to a residential area and raped her in the van, Helton said.
Helton said the woman was not able to tell police where the rape took place, but Santa Ana police investigated the case because the woman is from Santa Ana, Helton said.
Based on the description the woman provided, police were able to locate Farias’ home and began a stakeout Wednesday morning.
Police arrested Farias without incident about 7 a.m., shortly after he pulled onto the Garden Grove Freeway, Helton said.
Farias was being held in Orange County Central Jail in Santa Ana in lieu of $50,000 bail.
