Going Wild--The 125-acre Santiago Oaks Regional Park reports a profusion of wildflowers in the last couple of weeks because of the recent rains.
“Last year was spectacular, with the March rains and all,” park ranger John Bovee said, “and this year is just as spectacular.”
He said most of the blooms are concentrated toward the tops of the park’s hills, where it is sunnier and warmer.
The flowers in bloom include California golden poppies, ground pink, miniature lotus, clover, baby blue-eyes, California violets, blue-eyed grass, wild onion, popcorn flowers and several varieties of mustard.
Bovee did warn that there are just 54 parking spaces at Santiago Oaks, which fill up rapidly on weekends during the spring wildflower season.
