Fullerton Should Choose a Coach Who’ll Have Fun, Ceballos Says
Cedric Ceballos’ advice to members of the Cal State Fullerton hierarchy who will be selecting a new men’s basketball coach is to hire ‘a fun coach.’
“(John) Sneed was pretty fun there,” the former Titan standout said of the coach whose contract was not renewed last month. “He made the guys laugh and that’s what you want at that age. You want somebody to teach you life. He taught life, not just basketball, and that’s what college kids need because that’s where they’re going after college.”
Ceballos, now with the Suns, said he is disappointed the school didn’t have enough faith in (Sneed) to keep him there.
“He didn’t really have great players,” said Ceballos, who completed his eligibility after the 1989-90 season. “We had OK players who could get the job done. It all depended on whether the players wanted to come out and get it done. He had the right plan. He couldn’t get them to play consistently.
“When I was there, I always came to play, but there was always one (other) player who should have come to play and didn’t that night. And when we needed another (player) as a leader, he’d come. It was always someone else stepping up every night. It wasn’t on a consistent basis. You never really knew what you would get out of everybody.”
