Sportswriter Jim Spadafore of the Detroit News can keep his hair.

After Michigan’s Webber and Jalen Rose shaved their heads before the NCAA tournament, Spadafore had promised to shave his head if the Wolverines won the NCAA championship.

“We will win the NCAA championship and you will shave your head next year,” center Juwan Howard said.

Howard, who missed practice Sunday because he had flu, said he was still weak during the game.

“There were times out there when I was feeling a little drowsy, but I didn’t want to let my teammates down,” the Michigan center said. “I’m not trying to make excuses, but I wasn’t feeling well.”

Howard played good defense against Duke’s Laettner in the first half, when Laettner missed six of eight shots and had seven turnovers.
