“Boyz N the Hood,” which is an especially strong rental in black neighborhoods, maintained its lead on the Billboard magazine rental chart. But it may get a strong challenge from the thriller “Dead Again” (No. 2) and the fast-rising “The Fisher King” (No. 4). Another thriller, “Shattered,” starring Tom Berenger and Bob Hoskins, entered at No. 12, just ahead of the Joe Pesci comedy “The Super” (No. 13). Both these newcomers should jump into the Top 10 next week. “Paradise,” the drama starring Don Johnson and his wife, Melanie Griffith, came on the chart at No. 15.

* The two Oscar nominations for Laura Dern and her mother, Diane Ladd, boosted interest in this small, acclaimed art film that did only $6.2 million at the box office. “Rambling Rose” debuted at No. 14 and, now, looks like Top 10 material.
