SAN DIEGO : Murder Suspect Is Arrested
A 41-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old woman whose badly decomposed body was discovered in a Clairemont park, San Diego police said Wednesday.
Vernon Cleo Walton was taken into custody about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in connection with the death of Margaret E. Rodriguez, whose body was found Feb. 4 in the woods of Marian R. Bear Natural Park in San Clemente Canyon, police said.
Police said they arrested Walton in the 8300 block of Miramar Mall after tips from informants and evidence pointed to him as a suspect.
Rodriguez was reported missing Dec. 27 and was last seen a month before leaving a Clairemont bar with an unidentified man in his 40s, police said.
A pickup truck that Rodriguez lived out of in the Clairemont and Mission Bay areas was discovered abandoned Dec. 31 on Onondaga Avenue.
