When It Comes to Basketball, Holland Has His Own Style

Brad Holland’s thoughts on . . .

Desired style of play: “We’ll push the ball up, shoot our share of three-pointers, utilize the low post, penetrate . . . I want to attack the basket. Defensively, I want to be a very good half-court, man-to-man team, but we’ll play some zone. I want to play an exciting style of basketball that’s the most fun to coach, play and watch.”

Recruiting at Fullerton: “It was fun to recruit at UCLA, because that great name always got your foot in the door (with recruits). But once you were there, you still needed to work very hard. It will definitely be a challenge, but I believe there are enough talented players that we can get our share.”

Desired makeup of team: “We’ll need immediate help from the junior college level, but I would like the mix to change a bit. I’d like to get more high school players. If we have 12 scholarships, I’d like to see eight or nine go to four-year guys.”

Going from Pauley Pavilion to Titan Gym: “Certainly, Fullerton doesn’t quite have the facilities UCLA does, but that’s OK. Facilities are relative. This is a home-court advantage. When people get excited and we field a competent team, people will support us.”
