SEAL BEACH : City’s Easter Parade to Be Held Sunday

The Easter Bunny will hop down Main Street on Sunday, joined by marching bands, clowns and decorated floats for the city’s annual Easter Parade.

“This year it is going to be more entertaining for the kids,” said parade coordinator Victoria Richards. “There will be more things for them to do and see.”

Weeks ago, however, parade planners were not sure whether there would be anything to see along Main Street on April 12 because the parade, a Seal Beach tradition going back nearly two decades, was short of funds.

In previous years, funds for the parade were generated partially by sidewalk sales along Main Street, car shows and other community activities sponsored by the Seal Beach Business Assn. This year, said Richards, the moneymaking events came up short.

“Businesses on Main Street have been hit hard by the recession, and the money just wasn’t there,” Richards said. Additionally, a Seal Beach resident who in the past has contributed fina1852008801he rescue by offering to organize and partially fund the parade. Soon after, the Seal Beach Business Assn. scraped up about $1,000 for the parade.

There was no specific cost given for the parade because many goods and services are donated, but Richards said the business association’s contribution covers incidental costs.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Main Street and end at 7th Street and Electric Avenue. An Easter egg hunt will be held immediately after the parade at the Mary Wilson Library, 707 Electric Ave.
