Zuckerman to Make Offer for N.Y. Daily News: Real estate magnate Mortimer Zuckerman will make an offer to buy the New York Daily News, which is operating under bankruptcy law protection, a spokesman for Zuckerman said. Zuckerman already owns U.S. News & World Report magazine. The spokesman declined to give details but sources said it would probably not be a money offer but a proposal for the right to negotiate with the tabloid’s unions on cutbacks before a purchase would be made. Friday was the deadline set by the paper’s management to receive bids. The struggling Daily News has been searching for a new owner since the late Robert Maxwell’s publishing empire collapsed last year amid allegations that he looted millions from his companies.
