FULLERTON : Library Board Seeks Public Input

Share

The Fullerton Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a public forum Monday to gather ideas for cutting the library’s already slim budget for fiscal 1992.

“I would like to know what (the public) would be willing to sacrifice,” said library director Albert Milo. “That is what I and the City Council and the library board are struggling with. So I see this as a brainstorming session to hopefully generate a list of options.”

The library has been asked by the City Council to cut about $50,000 from its budget for next year. The library management has proposed shutting the main library on Sundays to save about $27,000 in staff payroll, but at least another $20,000 must be cut from the maintenance and supplies funding to meet budget requirements. The funding from the supplies budget is used to purchase books and magazines for the library.

The library’s Board of Trustees has cut its funding for the past three years.

“Everything that used to be sacred is no longer sacred,” Milo said. “I think the board feels that it is their responsibility to hear from the public.”

The discussion will start at 7 p.m. in Meeting Room B of the main library at 353 W. Commonwealth Ave.
