LAKE CUYAMACA : Driver Killed in Head-On Collision
A speeding pickup swerved out of control on California 79 near Lake Cuyamaca on Monday, causing a head-on collision in which one man died, authorities said.
Thomas Fleming, 39, of San Diego was driving the pickup south on the highway at 3:45 p.m. and, “because of excessive speed,” crossed the center line on a curve about a quarter of a mile south of the lake, colliding with an oncoming car, California Highway Patrol Officer Klaus Groeger said.
The unidentified driver of the car died at the scene, Groeger said.
Fleming and an unidentified passenger were treated at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for moderate injuries, Groeger said. He did not know whether Fleming was cited.
