Mall shooting--Due to incorrect information from the Sheriff’s Department, a story Thursday incorrectly identified a man who was shot to death March 20 in a parking lot at the Lakewood Center Mall. The victim was Sandy John.

According to deputies, John Sandy, 49, was approached at 7:49 p.m. March 20 by two men who demanded the keys to his 1987 Coupe de Ville. He was shot once with a .45 caliber pistol when he refused to surrender the keys and died three hours later at Lakewood Doctors Hospital. The shooting occurred during a rainstorm. Sandy had left his wife and daughter at the mall entrance, planning to return with the car to pick them up.

The Cadillac was found the next morning in Downey. The pistol that police believed was used in the shooting also has been recovered, authorities said.

In addition to facing murder charges, the suspects are being investigated in connection with a series of armed robberies in the Lakewood and Cerritos areas, deputies said.
