Long Beach : Hearing Slated on Funding for Street, Sidewalk Repairs
A City Council committee will hold a public hearing tonight to discuss ways of funding a backlog of infrastructure repair and maintenance projects in Long Beach.
The city’s sidewalks, curbs, seawalls and streets need millions of dollars worth of work, but local officials are not sure where to get the money. They say the city’s General Fund, which pays for basic services, is not rich enough to cover all the necessary projects.
In a recent report, the city manager outlined various financing alternatives, including the establishment of assessment districts, the issuance of city bonds and state loans.
The council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will start the hearing at 7 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium downtown.
