WEST COUNTY : OXNARD : 2 Men Killed in Unrelated Crashes
Two men died within hours of each other in auto accidents this weekend in the county, authorities said Saturday.
Roberto Cuevas, 24, of Oxnard was pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, about 45 minutes after he ran in the path of a car traveling north on Oxnard Boulevard in Oxnard, authorities said.
Brian Wagoner, 23, of Oak View was driving north of Orchard Place when Cuevas ran in front of his car, the California Highway Patrol said. Wagoner, who was going 40 m.p.h., tried to brake, but couldn’t avoid hitting Cuevas, the CHP said. Wagoner was not cited.
In the other accident, Matthew Monson, 19, of Ventura was pronounced dead at 2:21 a.m. Saturday at Ventura County Medical Center, about 50 minutes after the pickup truck he was a passenger in crashed into a pole, authorities said.
Danny Marsicek, 20, of Ventura was driving his pickup truck on Foothill Road near Hamilton Avenue when the truck went into a skid and crashed into the pole, police said. Passenger Joseph Padilla, 16, is in critical condition, and passenger Michelle Marsicek, 16, is in serious condition at Ventura County Medical Center, the nursing supervisor said.
Danny Marsicek, who was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter, is being held at Ventura County Jail.
