Halcion Days: Burt Reynolds said he nearly died from an addiction to Halcion, the controversial prescription sleeping pill. The actor told TV Guide in an interview due out today that he was addicted to the drug for more than two years and went into a coma when he tried to quit cold turkey. He said that he began taking Halcion after he suffered severe head and jaw injuries while making the 1984 film “City Heat” with Clint Eastwood. The pain was so intense that he took five to six pills at a time and as many as 50 a day. He attributes his comeback as the star of CBS’ “Evening Shade” to his wife Loni Anderson’s love during his tough times.
