Share

Cal State Fullerton professor Harris S. Shultz, long active in efforts to make mathematics exciting to young students, has been named one of the nation’s distinguished mathematics educators.

The Mathematical Assn. of America honored Shultz and 28 other college and university math educators recently in this inaugural year of the awards program. The 77-year-old association, with 34,000 members, is the leading national organization of professors teaching mathematics at the undergraduate college level.

Shultz, the award winner for the Southern California region, was selected for his effectiveness in teaching as well as his work to foster interest in mathematics beyond the walls of Cal State Fullerton, according to the association.

It is not the first honor for the 20-year Fullerton veteran. In 1988, he was named the Fullerton campus’s Outstanding Professor of the Year. In 1989, he was one of two professors selected as Outstanding Professors of the Year among all 20 CSU campuses.
