Socker Series Opener Up In the Air

The Sockers are not sure they will open the MSL championship series May 1, as previously announced.

If the Dallas Sidekicks win their semifinal series against Cleveland, the championship series will begin at the Sports Arena on April 30, May 1, or May 2. If Cleveland wins, however, a different set of dates is possible.

BASEBALL

Pitcher Craig Van Hulzen helped his cause with a three-run homer as Point Loma Nazarene defeated Claremont, 7-4, in a nonconference game. Van Hulzen (3-4) gave up seven hits in seven innings. PLNC is 16-20-1, Claremont 16-17.

GOLF

UC San Diego won the team championship of the 36-hole Point Loma Nazarene Invitational, played at Rancho San Diego. The Tritons shot 588, five better than Grand Canyon. The University of San Diego was sixth at 618 and PLNC eighth at 628.

Pete Roberts of UCSD shot 146 to finish third, one stroke behind Chris Miyhara of Cal State Long Beach and Travis Thompson of UC Irvine. Miyhara beat Thompson in a one-hole playoff. Also for the Tritons, Tom Brown shot 147 and Dale Abraham 148.
