MOORPARK : Exhibits Scheduled for Earth Day Event

Share

Electric cars, low-flow toilets and drought-resistant plants will be among the exhibits at an Earth Day celebration today at Moorpark College.

Muthena Naseri, an environmental science instructor at the college, said the event is an all-volunteer, no-frills effort to raise public awareness about environmental issues.

“There are no balloons, no flyers,” Naseri said.

“It’s a grass-roots, honest-to-goodness informational” effort.

The event is sponsored by the college’s department of environmental technology.

Naseri described the theme of the event, “environmental well-being,” as maintaining “one’s own happiness in a healthy environment. It’s use without abuse.”

Vehicles that run on methanol and several models of high-mileage gasoline-powered automobiles will be on display, along with exhibits on wind power, water-efficient methods of crop irrigation and landscaping and other environmental issues.

Officials from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District will be on hand to demonstrate how they measure air pollution.

The event will feature a clothes recycling center where visitors can pick up used clothes donated by students.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the quadrangle in front of the college’s Campus Center.
