CSUN Signs 2 Players in Basketball
Chris Yard and John Flowers, the apparent replacements for power forward Shelton Boykin and small forward Keith Gibbs, signed letters of intent Thursday to attend Cal State Northridge.
Yard, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound center from Lassen College in Susanville, Calif., averaged 18.3 points and 9.7 rebounds a game. He received honorable mention on the All-State team.
“He is so wide and strong,” Lassen Coach Brian Katz said. “And he can shoot the ball out to 17 feet really accurately. He’s a real sleeper.”
Yard also visited San Jose State and Eastern Washington and considered offers from Montana State and Southern Utah.
Flowers, a 6-4 forward from Phoenix (Ariz.) College, is the first player from an out-of-state school to sign with CSUN. He averaged 16.4 points and 4.2 rebounds a game and earned second-team All-Region I honors last season.
Flowers also considered offers from Hawaii, Toledo, Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
Northridge was not so fortunate with Aaron Adams, a 6-6 forward from Long Beach City College. Adams chose San Jose State over four schools, including Northridge. Adams said Northridge was “too close to the house. I wanted to get away.”
