Share

The Santa Clarita Valley’s seventh annual Olde Towne Days fair on Sunday will celebrate the first discovery of gold in California.

“It’s a little-known fact that California gold was first discovered in Placerita Canyon in 1842,” said Sandra Forbes, a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, sponsor of the daylong event.

The fair, featuring wagon rides, gold panning, tomahawk throwing and exhibits on local historic buildings and Western theater will be held at the Saugus Train Station and Heritage Junction next to William S. Hart Park, 24107 San Fernando Road in downtown Newhall. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
