CAMARILLO : Forum on Hospital Merger Is Scheduled
- Share via
Pleasant Valley Hospital will hold a public forum in Camarillo on its proposed merger with St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Pleasant Valley Hospital officials said they will give a presentation on why they believe the merger would save Camarillo’s only hospital. Officials have projected a $3.5-million to $4-million deficit for 1996, although the hospital made a $1-million profit last year.
Residents and doctors have called for the Camarillo Health Care District, which transferred ownership of the hospital to a nonprofit corporation in 1983, to stall the merger by seizing control of the hospital by eminent domain.
Health care district officials have said they will consider this option. Meanwhile, they said they will hire an independent auditor to review the hospital’s financial records and evaluate whether the merger would be in the community’s best interests.
The forum is scheduled for May 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Bill Esty Center on Las Posas Road.
