Olympics
From Staff and Wire Reports
Ethiopia will return to the Olympics after a 12-year absence, the country’s top sports official announced.
Sebhat Belay, head of the sports department of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Culture and Sports, said Ethiopian athletes will go the Barcelona Games to compete in track and field, cycling and boxing.
Ethiopia last participated in the Olympics in 1980, when the Games were held in Moscow. The nation had been boycotting the Olympics on orders from Mengistu Haile Mariam, the Marxist dictator driven from power last year.
