OXNARD : Higher Trash, Water, Sewer Fees Backed

Share

Oxnard’s City Council tentatively approved Tuesday a 14% increase in trash, water and sewer rates. The increases, subject to final council approval during budget deliberations, would become effective in July.

Under the proposed fee schedule, the average household sewer bill would go from $17.44 to $20.86, mostly to pay for a state-mandated program to monitor storm runoff flowing into the river and ocean.

Water fees for the average resident would go from $17.83 to $20.50, mainly to offset a 21% increase by the city’s main water supplier, the Calleguas Municipal Water District, over the past two years.

The average monthly trash rates would go from $15.55 to $16.57 to pay for recycling costs that last year were subsidized by the city’s general fund.

The council approved the recommendations unanimously and without comment. No speakers opposed the rate hikes.
