Share

Two young men accused of committing a hate crime against a gay man will go on trial June 17.

Both Michael Favreau, 20, and Aaron Graham, 18, of San Diego, pleaded innocent Wednesday before San Diego Superior Court Judge Herbert Exarhos, who set the trial date.

Marvin Grubb, 37, was beaten in a 10:15 a.m. assault March 26 in Clairemont after two men drove by as he walked down a street and yelled an epithet at him. Grubb responded with an obscene gesture, and the pair stopped their car and beat him. His leg was broken in three places in the attack.

Favreau and Graham are accused of a felony assault charge that also alleges a civil rights violation because the motive for the attack allegedly was the victim’s sexual orientation. They are free on bail.
