Holding On to the Viewers by Delaying News Reports

Share

During the last few months, I too have complained to the major television channels in Los Angeles about manipulated news stories and holding back significant news so as to attract viewers and show commercials (“Sweeps! Hold the News and Perk Up the Ratings,” April 27).

The Federal Communications Commission told me that there is nothing they can do and that the majors have a legal right to manipulate the news in any way they see fit. There isn’t much anyone can do about it (including Howard Rosenberg) because television companies have already thrashed out in court just how far they can go.
