How to Ensure Water Supply
I believe that the leaders of the water community need to band together to make sure that in the 20th Century Ventura County will have ample water and storage. There are several ways remaining to achieve this. They are:
* Import state water.
* Install a dam on the Sespe. Citizens should insist that the federal government reserve a site for a dam on the Sespe Creek, currently proposed to be designated for protection under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. If this option is not left open, we will never see a dam on the Sespe Creek and the water will continue to flow into the ocean.
* Excavate behind existing dams during the dry years to provide more storage during wet years and use the dirt for sanitary landfills.
* Install desalination plants, one in Oxnard and one in Ventura, or one plant for both cities.
If the farmers in our county do not want their wells to go dry, and our communities do not want their water rationed in the future, I suggest each citizen get involved in supporting the above recommended solutions.
