Today: Republican Assembly candidate Mike Berger holds a barbecue fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cameron Center in Thousand Oaks. Berger is a candidate in the 37th Assembly District that encompasses Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Reservations and a $15 donation requested. Sunday: Democratic congressional candidate Kevin Sweeney will hold a fund-raiser that features noted environmentalist David Brower as the featured speaker. Brower was the first director of the Sierra Club and helped launch Friends of the Earth and the Earth Island Institute. The fund-raiser will be held at the Faria Beach home of Kris McDivitt. Sweeney is a candidate in the 23rd Congressional District that includes Carpinteria and all of Ventura County except Thousand Oaks. For more information, call 652-1992.

Sunday: Ventura County Supervisor Susan K. Lacey’s reelection committee will hold a champagne reception from 4 to 7 p.m. at the home of Bill and Paula Spellman, 1008 Amber Lane, Ojai. Lacey is running for reelection in the 1st Supervisorial District, which encompasses Ventura, most of the Ojai Valley and the Oxnard Shores and Mandalay Bay beach communities. Tuesday: Ventura County Supervisor Maggie Erickson Kildee will hold a Cinco de Mayo campaign fund-raiser at La Sala Vista Recreation Center, 2780 Antonio Drive, Camarillo, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The event, $150 per person, includes margaritas and mariachi music. Erickson Kildee is running for reelection in the 3rd Supervisorial District that includes the cities of Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula, Fillmore, the community of Piru and portions of Thousand Oaks. Thursday: Moorpark College is sponsoring a debate between Democratic congressional candidates Anita Perez Ferguson and Kevin Sweeney. The debate begins at 8:30 a.m. in Room 100 on the college campus. Perez Ferguson and Sweeney are competing for the Democratic nomination in the 23rd Congressional District, which encompasses Carpinteria, and all of Ventura County except Thousand Oaks.

Thursday: Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan will address students at Cal Lutheran University at noon in the university’s gym. Admission is free.

Saturday: Democratic Assembly candidate Roz McGrath will hold a fund-raiser 4 to 6 p.m. on May 9 at the McGrath Family Farm in Camarillo. The cost is $50 per person. McGrath is a candidate in the 37th Assembly District. For more information, call 482-4410.
