SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The special needs of disabled people who have alcohol and other drug addictions will be the topic of a community forum to be held at Saddleback College on Thursday.

The informal discussion is designed to provide an opportunity for people with disabilities and service providers to identify the key issues related to disabilities and drug problems.

The forum is part of the county’s alcohol and drug abuse master planning effort, organizers said.

Areas of discussion will include:

* Alcohol-involved accidents that often result in permanent disabilities for drunk drivers and their victims.

* Alcohol or other drug dependencies that develop after medication is taken for a long time.

* Disabilities that may require adaptations from traditional treatment methods.

Organizers are encouraging members of the community to attend to share their ideas.

The forum will begin at 1 p.m. in Room 225 of Saddleback College’s Student Services building. The college is at 28000 Marguerite Parkway in Mission Viejo.
