Alleyne Named Director: John Alleyne has been named the new artistic director of the Vancouver-based Ballet British Columbia. He comes to the company from the National Ballet of Canada, where he has been resident choreographer. Alleyne, who was one of Canada’s most noted dancers before focusing on choreography, was named best choreographer at the International Ballet Competition in 1990 and was the first Canadian to create a work for the New York City Ballet. He replaces former artistic director Barry Ingham, who died earlier this year from AIDS complications.
