SAN CLEMENTE : Watch Program Hits 10-Year Mark
Police Chief Albert C. Ehlow and the Police Department will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the San Clemente Neighborhood Watch Program by holding a special meeting Friday.
The event will honor all residents who have participated in the program since its inception in 1982.
“Because of the continued support and dedication of our Neighborhood Watch members, the crime rate for residential burglaries has been significantly impacted each year the program has been in existence,” Ehlow said.
At the same time that the burglary rate has fallen, however, the police chief said that other types of crime have begun to play a larger role in the department’s activities.
“Today, our members are also on the lookout for drug trafficking, gang activity, overcrowding, domestic violence and other social issues that are challenging our neighborhoods,” he said.
California Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren will be the featured guest speaker.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 100 Avenida Presidio.
