Police were searching Monday for a gunman who fatally shot two men inside a fast-food restaurant, apparently after seeking out his victims among the diners.

The other patrons scattered out of Tacos Mi Pueblo after gunfire erupted about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and the gunman is believed to have run out of the restaurant with them, investigators said.

The small establishment is on Katella Avenue, near Disneyland.

One man was found dead in a booth at the back of the room.

Another, a 21-year-old Anaheim resident, stumbled outside and was found bleeding on the sidewalk. He was pronounced dead shortly after being admitted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

The name of the 21-year-old man was withheld pending notification of relatives, said Police Lt. Ray Welch. The other victim, whom officials estimated to be 25, was not carrying any identification.

Police said they had determined no motive for the shootings. They said they had no information that it was gang-related but were not ruling out the possibility.

Witnesses who were standing outside Tacos Mi Pueblo when they heard gunshots gave conflicting statements, according to Homicide Sgt. Chet Barry.

Some said a lone man entered the small restaurant and fired about five shots at the two men. Others said both victims had been sitting with the gunman in the booth.

No diners who might have been witnesses were there when police arrived, and employees of the restaurant, which is open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., said they were all in the kitchen during the shootings.

There were no visible signs of the violence at lunchtime Monday, when the restaurant was packed with customers, mostly Latino families.

The restaurant’s manager, Teresa Barraga, said she was washing spoons in the kitchen Sunday night when she heard gunshots over the music.

“When I got out here, everybody was gone,” Barraga said.
