A Perot Presidency

Share

David Broder’s put-down of Ross Perot’s potential to solve some of our country’s ills (“The Perils of a Perot Presidency,” Commentary, April 28) is based on Broder’s contention that Perot would not be able to form a consensus government.

Is Mr. Broder telling us that we should stretch our imaginations so far as to believe that the corrupt, Democrat-controlled Congress would have gotten us out of this mess had we only had a Democrat in the White House?

Or is Broder telling us to stretch our imaginations even further--to imagine that a Mr. Bush, who drifts with every political wind, would have been able to solve our problems if the Congress had been controlled by a Republican majority?

I can’t decide which scenario is more absurd.

Perot’s candidacy is demonstrating further that the American people are crying out to get rid of as many incumbent politicians as possible.
