Countywide : Dedicated Public Service Earns 2 County Workers Top Awards

County employee Sampson Brue, honored Tuesday as one of Ventura County’s top public servants, said he tries to treat every customer with courtesy and respect.

On a typical day, Brue, 35, a deputy recorder in the busy office of the Ventura County Clerk and Recorder, may pull hundreds of property records for county residents.

“It takes a lot of patience,” Brue said. “Some people come in, trying to record documents without the assistance of an attorney or a title company, and they’re not really knowledgeable about what they are doing.

“I try to put myself on the other side of the counter and ask how would I want to be treated,” he said.

Brue, a county employee for 1 1/2 years, and David Goldstein, a county waste management analyst, were co-recipients of the People’s Choice Award during the second annual Ventura County Public Employee Day rally Tuesday at the County Government Center.

Brue and Goldstein were selected by a committee of county officials from 32 employees nominated by county residents for the honor, Personnel Director Ronald Komers said.

More than 1,000 county employees packed the government center courtyard during the rally.

While dining on fast-food donated by a number of local restaurants, the crowd also recognized 60 county workers selected by colleagues within their respective departments for outstanding service.

The rally was part of the local celebration of National Public Service Recognition Week.
