The University of San Diego women’s tennis team is in the NCAA team championships for the fourth year in a row, and San Diego State is headed to the postseason for the 13th time in the last 16 years.

The tournament, at Stanford, begins May 13 and runs through May 17.

USD (15-4) is seeded 17th and will play 16th-seeded Mississippi (16-10) in the opening round. SDSU received the 14th seed and will play 20th seeded Kansas.

Stephens said she was not displeased with the seedings.

“Timing had a lot to do with it,” USD Coach Sherri Stephens said. “I think there’s a lot of good teams that are pretty close. I really feel once you get into the tournament anything can happen.”

The Toreras fell to Ole Miss, 5-1, in the first round last season.

“I think we feel like we want to get some revenge,” Stephens said. “We didn’t play like it was a national championship (match) last year.”

If USD wins, it will play second-ranked Stanford in the second round. Earlier this season, the Toreras lost to Stanford 5-1, but four of five losses were three-set matches.
